Huawei supports eSIM on a narrow set of flagship models. If you are carrying a Huawei, this is the brand where it is most worth checking rather than assuming, and there is a second point to be aware of beyond the hardware.

Check this phone in one tap

Let the page work out which handset you are on, or type the model. It answers straight away, and it tells you how sure it is.

Huawei models that support eSIM

Huawei P40 and Mate 40 Pro. Some regional versions of other flagships from the same period also carry it.

Huawei models that do not

P30, P20 and older, and most of the Y-series and Nova ranges.

The second thing to check

Recent Huawei phones ship without Google Mobile Services. That does not stop an eSIM from working, since mobile data does not depend on Google, but it does change how you install and manage things. Installation on a Huawei is done from the phone's own settings rather than through anything from the Play Store, and your usual travel apps may need to come from Huawei's AppGallery or be sideloaded.

The data itself behaves exactly as it does on any other phone once the eSIM is installed.

How to check your Huawei

Open Settings → Mobile network → SIM management, or on some builds Settings → Wireless & networks → Dual SIM management. An option to add an eSIM confirms support.

The check that always works

Open your phone's dialler and type *#06#. You do not need to press call. A panel appears with your device identifiers. If one of them is labelled EID, a 32-digit number, your phone has eSIM hardware. No EID means no eSIM.

This works on any phone, any brand, any region, and it is the only check that cannot be thrown off by a model name that was sold in several different versions.

What if your phone does not support eSIM?

Then a travel eSIM is not an option for that handset, and no app or update will change it: the eSIM chip is physical hardware. Your realistic choices are a local physical SIM bought on arrival, your own operator's roaming package, or using an older eSIM-capable phone as a second device. If you are close to replacing the phone anyway, every current flagship and most current mid-range models have eSIM built in.
