Xiaomi supports eSIM on its recent flagship line, and mostly does not elsewhere. This is the brand where the version you own matters more than the name on the box.

Check this phone in one tap

Let the page work out which handset you are on, or type the model. It answers straight away, and it tells you how sure it is.

Xiaomi models that support eSIM

Xiaomi 12T Pro, and the 13, 14 and 15 series including the Pro and Ultra variants. A small number of high-end Redmi Note Pro+ models also carry it.

Xiaomi models that do not

Most of the Redmi line and most of the POCO line, along with older Mi models. These are built to a price, and eSIM hardware is one of the things left out.

Global version or Chinese version

Xiaomi builds separate versions of the same phone for the Chinese market and for everywhere else. The Chinese versions generally do not have eSIM enabled, even for models that support it globally. They also run a different build of the software, so the menus described below may not match.

If you bought your Xiaomi from an importer or while travelling, there is a reasonable chance you have a Chinese version. The check below will tell you in seconds.

How to check your Xiaomi

Open Settings → SIM cards & mobile networks. An option to add an eSIM means it is supported. On HyperOS the same screen may be listed as SIM cards & mobile data.

The check that always works

Open your phone's dialler and type *#06#. You do not need to press call. A panel appears with your device identifiers. If one of them is labelled EID, a 32-digit number, your phone has eSIM hardware. No EID means no eSIM.

This works on any phone, any brand, any region, and it is the only check that cannot be thrown off by a model name that was sold in several different versions.

What if your phone does not support eSIM?

Then a travel eSIM is not an option for that handset, and no app or update will change it: the eSIM chip is physical hardware. Your realistic choices are a local physical SIM bought on arrival, your own operator's roaming package, or using an older eSIM-capable phone as a second device. If you are close to replacing the phone anyway, every current flagship and most current mid-range models have eSIM built in.
